Description

Firm closures and layoffs: The impact on Australian families. This project aims to provide new insights into the relationship between economic conditions, firm operations and performance as well as the economic, social and emotional outcomes of the families affected by economic uncertainty. The project expects to identify and quantify the impacts of economic uncertainty and job loss on health, healthcare use, welfare uptake, re-training, employment trajectories, plus outcomes for spouses and children, in addition to impacts on family dissolution. This evidence will guide policies to identify at-risk firms, propose countermeasures to negative impacts and ensure government spending is directed in a timely manner to those most in need, so that families and communities remain resilient to economic shocks..
