Description
Investigating the plant growth/defence trade-off. This project aims to understand how plants balance their growth with defence against pathogens. It expects to generate new knowledge in the area of how natural plant defence mechanisms impact on plant productivity by investigating the underlying biochemical mechanisms. The expected outcomes of this project include the ability to easily identify new long-lasting disease resistance genes, and a more complete understanding of how the plant immune system works. This should provide significant benefits including improving crop productivity by identification of new resistance genes, and strategies to optimise the balance between plant growth and resistance to pathogens. .
