Description

Unveiling the mysteries of rare-earth additions in magnesium alloys. This project aims to use state-of-the-art characterization and computation techniques to unveil the elusive roles of rare-earth (RE) solutes in intra-granular and inter-granular deformation processes of thermomechanically processed magnesium alloys that hold technological significance. This project expects to generate new insights into deformation mechanisms and establishing a solid platform for designing innovative RE-free alternatives with unprecedented properties. Expected outcomes are likely to fill a substantial knowledge gap and offer solutions for a much-needed class of multifunctional alloys. This should provide significant benefits for Australia’s research capability in developing advanced materials to tackle global challenges.. Scheme: Discovery Projects.
