Description

The Cost of Living (Well): A Sociological Study of Cost, Value, and Care. This project aims to uncover the full extent and consequences of rising out-of-pocket healthcare costs in Australia. Out-of-pocket costs (OOPCs) often come as a rude shock and can lead to financial distress, compromised care, increased inequalities, and significant suffering. Taking a person-centred, strengths-based approach, this project will identify how people in need of high-cost care, their carers, and their healthcare providers navigate the difficulties posed by the new OOP economy of healthcare. Expected outcomes include publicly accessible resources and targeted policy and practice advice that will provide significant benefit by reducing the burdens, suffering, and harms caused by high OOPCs in Australia's current healthcare system.. Scheme: Linkage Projects. Field: 4410 - Sociology. Lead: A/Prof Katherine Kenny
