Description

Explosive Astrophysics from Siding Spring Observatory. This project aims to link telescopes at Siding Spring Observatory into a fully automated network that can discover and investigate explosive astronomical events. By linking these telescopes to one another, it will be possible to study these transitory events in great detail soon after they occur and before they fade away forever. The expected outcomes include a deeper understanding into what explodes, the mechanisms that lead to the explosions, and how these explosions shape their surroundings. This project will connect this network into similar networks that are now being assembled in other parts of the world, and allow participation by Australian astronomers in what will be a golden age in the study of explosive astronomical transients. .
