Description

Advancing high resolution soil moisture and vegetation dynamics monitoring. This project aims to address a gap in high resolution monitoring of soil moisture and vegetation dynamics by leveraging a new radar satellite capability about to be launched. Accordingly, this project expects to develop mature algorithms for accurate high resolution mapping of soil moisture dynamics, woody plant & forest biomass, and fire burn areas and their recovery under Australian conditions. Expected outcomes include subsequent use by operational satellite monitoring repositories and carbon accounting systems. Benefits arising from this high resolution time-series information on soil moisture and vegetation status include a powerful tool for understanding the dynamics of carbon stores and consequent climate change impacts on Australia..
