About

The Northern WP Holman Clinic Trust was established by friends and supporters of the WP Holman Clinic in August, 1999. The Trust supports the ongoing development of the Clinic for the benefit of all cancer sufferers. It secures donations and bequests for the promotion, upgrade and maintenance of excellence in cancer care for the population of Northern Tasmania. History Dr William Prout Holman established a medical practice in Tasmania in 1925 which laid the foundation for the creation of the state’s first cancer centre in Launceston. His vision was to create a cancer centre where humanity, care and compassion, service and the delivery of state-of-the-art cancer treatments all shared equal importance. In 1952 an agreement with the Cancer Institute of Victoria established Peter MacCallum Clinics in Tasmanian hospitals for the treatment of cancer patients. In 1957, the Melbourne-based peter MacCallum Cancer Clinic officially opened a satellite centre in Launceston and the Tasmanian Government assumed responsibility for this service in 1986. The centre was fittingly renamed the “WP Holman Clinic” in honour of its founder. Dr Holman’s legacy lives on. His vision and dedication has helped to build a centre of excellence which prides itself on the delivery of a comprehensive cancer care service, providing high level, highly specialised cancer care to the community of Northern Tasmania.
