Australian Tropical Research Foundation
Giving Philosophy
Austrop does not operate as a traditional philanthropy making grants to external organizations. Instead, it conducts direct on-ground conservation work, environmental research, and education at its own property (Cluster Fig Nature Refuge). The foundation believes in hands-on rainforest restoration, wildlife conservation (particularly spectacled flying foxes), and providing research facilities to interested scientists and students.
Tips for Applicants
This is NOT a traditional grant-making foundation. Those seeking funding should not apply for grants. Instead, interested individuals can apply to volunteer, intern, or conduct research at the station. Fees apply: Volunteers $40/day, Interns $50/day, Students $65/day, Researchers $90/day. Skills needed include flexibility, self-motivation, and willingness to participate in mundane tasks. Knowledge of rabies vaccination required for bat work.
